A new memorial in Christchurch for the 2010 Iroquois crash victims is being described as 'poignant'.
The plaque at the Air Force Museum at Wigram, remembers Corporal Ben Carson, and flight lieutenants Hayden Madsen and Dan Gregory.
They were flying to an ANZAC service in Wellington when their helicopter crashed into a hill.
The Defence Force later pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches.
Corporal Ben Carson was from Christchurch.
His father Andrew said the new plaque sits beside another family member's memorial.
"Ben's grandfather, there was a memorial plaque on there to his squadron as well, during the war. So there are two members of the family represented on that wall."
He said Defence Force handling of the crash which claimed the life of his son, and its aftermath, has improved.
"The last two Air Vice Marshals have tried to make it a bit easier, they've been a lot more open about it but it's still very difficult."
