A child has died after being hit by a car while walking on a Canterbury road.

Police confirmed the child’s death following a serious crash on Leeston Rd, Springston.

Police said they were notified of the crash, which involved a car and a pedestrian, around 3.30pm.

Police confirmed that the pedestrian was a child, who, despite the best efforts of emergency services, sadly died at the scene.

“Leeston Rd remains closed between Goulds Rd and Bethels Rd, while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination,” police said.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
