The body of a missing diver's been found by police after four days of police searches in the Marlborough Sounds.

It comes after a 49-year-old diver failed to re-surface after descending from a boat near Stephens Island on Saturday morning.

The Police National Dive Squad had been surveying the water while the Department of Conservation and a Police launch assessed the shoreline from Wellington.

Today the Dive Squad recovered a body, but they're yet to identify it.
