Emergency services have swarmed to an inner Auckland suburb after a body was found this afternoon.

A resident who lives on Linwood Avenue in Mt Albert said she could hear sirens ringing out continuously in the area.

An RNZ reporter at the scene said she could see a body on the roadway.

The resident told the Herald a sheet had been attached from a black van parked on the side of the street.

Police were focused on a block of flats that were set back from the road, she said.

A neighbour said he returned home from an MRI scan and noticed a black van parked outside his home had crashed into a rubbish bin.

Ten minutes later, he heard someone outside calling for help. When he approached the van the engine was still on.

“I went to try help too but saw the man was motionless or lifeless,” he said.

He said police told him the man, who was in his fifties, had died of a heart attack.

Another neighbour told the Herald the street was “usually pretty quiet”.

“Nothing dramatic ever happens around here,” she said.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified at 1.40pm and responded with an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles.

Police said they are not treating the death as suspicious.
