The All Blacks have retained the Bledisloe Cup with a stunning display of running rugby at fortress Eden Park.Â
The win was built on the back of a hugely improved performance in the forwards, who consistently crushed the Wallaby set piece and won plenty of turnovers, providing clean ball for the backs. Â
Dane Coles scored the opening try of the match in the 21st minute, set up by a devastating run from Dan Carter just a week after he was criticised for not carrying the ball enough.Â
The try capped off a period where the All Blacks surged back into the match, after an initial 10 minutes of the Wallabies being right on top. Â
By half time the All Blacks had 55% of the ball, and the Wallabies were struggling to get any forward movement. The hosts also held a 13-6 lead.Â
After the break it took a moment of magic from Nehe Milner-Skudder to put points on the board. A cutting run followed by a miraculous offload led to Aaron Smith being clear on the line. He was brought down by a high tackle from Quade Cooper, costing the Australians both a penalty try and their first five for 10 minutes in the bin.
It opened up the floodgates. The All Blacks took advantage of their extra man to put Ma'a Nonu in space for the next try.
Nonu then returned the favour for centre field partner Conrad Smith, slicing forward with a break right up to the line. Smith found himself receiving a pass in an acre of space on the right wing, and practically walked it over for the 4th try of the night.Â
By the 55th minute the lead had ballooned to 28 points. It allowed the All Blacks to play with freedom and verve, running the ball from all parts of the field. The blitz seemed to stun the Wallabies into submission, a shocking turnaround from the heroics of last week.Â
Nonu bagged a double in the 64th minute, with Carter again influential in the set up. Their combination was a highlight in a near perfect team performance.
Israel Folau picked up a consolation try, after leaping to catch a high ball, slipping his marker and running 60 metres to the line.
The final score of 41-13 reflected the utter dominance of the All Blacks tonight, who proved that on home soil they are nigh on unbeatable.Â
