Aucklanders are burning through electricity in an attempt to keep cool.
Transpower data shows residents used 7.7 percent more power 9am to 5am on Monday, than the previous two Mondays.
Chief Executive Ari Sargent says there are other ways to cool down such as keeping windows open at night, cooking outside and setting your air-con to 22 degrees.
"Most people tend to use more power in winter and expect those higher bills but if you've got the air con cranking you're probably not really expecting those higher bills in Summer.
"It's certainly worth being aware of and if you can, track your usage so you don't get those nasty bill surprises."
