Updated 5:43pm: A wire rope company is denying it is cutting 18 jobs at its Auckland plant.
The EPMU says Bridon Cookes is axing jobs due to the high New Zealand dollar.
But the company's managing director Mike Toxopeus says the redundancies are just part of a proposal, and haven't been confirmed yet.
The company is consulting with the staff from now until October 10th, when it will make a final decision.
