Large traffic delays are expected on Auckland’s State Highway 20 after a rubbish truck spilled its flaming load on to the road.

Police said the fire near the Lambie Drive offramp at Manukau was reported about 2.17pm.

“Smoke from the fire is also affecting the Lambie Drive offramp, with visibility impacted.”

The lane will be closed for some time while debris is cleared. Drivers are advised to avoid the area where possible and expect delays.

In a post on X, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said two lanes were now open but the left northbound lane remained blocked and the Lambie Drive offramp was still closed.

“Expect delays as traffic is heavy in the area.”
