Carmel College on Auckland's North Shore is no longer in lockdown - with all students and staff safe and accounted for.

The North Shore school posted a message to parents saying there had been an “incident”.

“Carmel College is still in lockdown and dealing with an incident,” the school said on its website.

“The police are supporting us with an incident, the staff and students are safe.”

On Facebook, it asked parents not to come to or phone the school.

“This may cause disruption to the management of this incident and could potentially place yourselves and/or our staff and students’ safety at risk.”

It said further updates would be provided on the school website.

Police have been contacted for comment.
