Dick Quax is clear of cancer.

The Auckland Councillor and former middle distance runner was diagnosed with throat cancer three years ago and was later found to have it on his lymph nodes and lungs.

He's had three major operations since September 2013, including removal of part of his lung and a neck operation.

He's also had nearly a hundred sessions of radiation treatment and six rounds of chemotherapy.

On a Facebook post, Dick Quax says a PET scan has confirmed all tumours have gone.

He's thanked all those who've supported him, including his doctors, family and friends, as well as council colleagues and staff.
