Kaitaia Police have made an arrest in connection with a homicide investigation.

A 29-year-old father of four was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Kaitaia Hospital last night.

There are 17 people in the investigation team, also looking into a preceding incident that is believed to have occurred on Fairburn Road.

Child specialists are also providing support to four children aged between 3 and 13 who saw what happened.

There have been scene examinations today and there'll be more tomorrowl.

The body of the victim will undergo a forensic postmortem in Auckland tomorrow.

A 50-year-old local man was arrested early this morning and he will appear in the Kaitaia District Court tomorrow.
