
Three schools in Nelson are in lockdown while armed police respond to an incident nearby.
Nayland College, Nayland Primary School and Broadgreen Intermediate were locked down just after 2pm.
Nayland College principal Daniel Wilson told the Press a threat was made to the school and its students.
Parents are being told to not go to the schools and children are safe.
Police told the Herald they had closed Nayland Rd.
“Cordons are in place at Songer St and Whakatū Drive. Some nearby schools have been placed into lockdown as a precaution,” a police spokesman said.

“There is not believed to be any threat to public safety at this time.”
However, he said people should avoid the area.
Witnesses outside the schools have claimed police officers were armed.
