Updated 10.00pm: Auckland Police have launched a homicide investigation, following the discovery of the body of a 70 year old woman in Te Atatu Peninsula.

St John Ambulance said the woman was dead when they arrived at the scene around 5:11pm.

Two other people were treated for shock at the scene.

Police want to talk to anyone who saw people or vehicles in Glenvil Lane and surrounding areas during the course of the day.

They say they were called to the property at around 5.30 this evening.

Residents took to social media with reports of a major operation around Gloria Avenue, involving police, the ambulance service and the fire service.

The police helicopter has also been operating in the suburb, which is about 14 kilometres west of central Auckland.
