Ohakune Police are concerned about the disappearance of an elderly man who hasn't been seen for a couple of days.

They're trying to find 86-year-old Hotene Koia - also known as Joe - who was last seen at his home in the Pipiriki township on Tuesday.

He suffers from diabetes and is insulin dependent and police have serious concerns for his health and safety.

He also suffers from dementia and may be visiting places he used to reside in, including the Waipukurau, Palmerston North, and Whanganui areas.

It's believed he left his home in his vehicle, described as a 1995 two tone red and silver, Nissan Prairie station wagon, registration C-N-Q-8-0-6.

Anyone who might have seen him is asked to contact police.
