For the first time in history, The Reserve Bank is to release a coloured circulating coin to mark the ANZAC centenary.

The coloured legal tender 50 cent coin will go on sale next month to commemorate the centenary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli.

One million of the special 50 cent coins have been minted, representing the size of the New Zealand population at the start of the First World War.
