Shooting safety is top of the agenda again, with the death of another hunter.
Police are investigating after a person died on Stewart Island yesterday.
It's the first fatal hunting accident since the death of Southland farmer Adam Hill last April.
Deerstalkers Association president Bill O'Leary says all hunters need to consider safety above all else.
"Take a good hard look at your kids and your wife and your friends and just consider the harm that a misplaced bullet could do to the people that you love and respect."
O'Leary says like a car, a gun is lethal when safety slips.
"We're human beings. People do lose their concentration, people do make mistakes and with a firearm, the consequences are just tragic."
O'Leary wants hunters to consider every movement in the bush as a person, until they can see otherwise.
