Air New Zealand is advising passengers there may be minor delays after one of its planes was struck by lightning.

NZ417 travelling from Auckland to Wellington was struck by lightning as it approached the Capital this morning.

A spokesperson says the aircraft is currently being assessed by engineers and is expected to resume services this afternoon.

A small number of delays may occur as a result.
