A crowd funded bid to buy a piece of the Abel Tasman coast line is fighting it out with other tenders for a piece of Awaroa Beach.
Nearly 40,000 pledges have been lodged on the Give-A-Little page that wants to donate the beach to DOC, but the total amount donated is being kept under wraps.
Organiser Duane Major had hoped theirs would be the only bid, but that isn't the case.
"We have been told that we're not alone in the bidding and that creates way more complexities doesn't it? So we'll just have to really hope that we win the race."

Mr Major said they're still collecting donations in the hope it will give them a last minute edge.
"Yeah there is still time for those people who want to support the people's pledge in a no strings attached fashion, and they can arrange to have something in the kitty to help those negotiations go well in the very final phases."
Mr Major said they're in need of donations in the thousands, rather than just a couple of dollars.
He said they expect to find out the results of the tender process sometime today.
