Claims a Waikato iwi's treaty rights are being breached are being rebuffed in Parliament.
Edward Penetito's petitioned Parliament on behalf of Ngati Kauwhata saying the Office of Treaty settlements has prejudiced its claim and included it with a neighbouring iwi against its wishes when considering settlement options.
The petition's been knocked back by Parliament's Maori Affairs Select Committee.
It's found there are options for Ngati Kauwhata to enter settlement talks and is satisfied there's sufficient redress land available in Waikato for a potential settlement with the iwi.
