Helicopters were kept busy fighting two fires in the Queenstown area last night.
The first was about 4.30pm in an area of forest near the old Wakatipu High School site and an industrial area in Queenstown.
Then around 6.30pm, the choppers headed to a grass fire at Jack's Point where a total of three helicopters were used.
Both fires were brought under control.
Meanwhile, lifestyle blocks with large gardens around Queenstown are putting a strain on water supplies.
The District Council has issued another round of restrictions, this time covering Lake Hayes Estate, Shotover Country and Arthur's Point.
Water use is already limited in Arrowtown and Glenorchy.
Chief Engineer Ulrich Glasner said the problem is mainly affecting semi-rural areas, rather than the centre of town.
"The schemes are smaller the reservoirs are smaller that's one point and sometimes there are really big sections out there."
