Fire bans remain in place across Otago and Canterbury this morning, making it an offence to light a fire in the open air.

Many other regions have restrictions in place, and Federated Farmers is urging members to take care.

Dunedin City Council is asking people in the city to conserve water.

Warm, dry conditions have brought about falling water levels in the city's tributaries.

The Council says while people don't need to go without the necessities, water should be used sparingly until there's some rain.
