The Invercargill City Council is pledging to support a woman who currently owns more than two dozen cats, even after they beat her in a recent court battle.
Averil Gardiner has been found guilty of two charges in the Invercargill District Court relating to her keeping of 25 cats.
Now she's been ordered to reduce the number of cats she owns to three, meaning she'll have to say goodbye to more than 20.
Council spokesman John Youngson says they'll be doing what they can to help with that.
"I think we'll be giving her every support for that to happen and I'll be talking with places like SPCA to see if we can help her facilitate the process."
John Youngson is happy for the residents of Thurso Street, who now won't have to deal with the cats.
