Increased demand will see Queenstown's Coronet Peak open up to mountain bikers this summer.

NZSki is bringing back chairlift access to Coronet Peak, as the sport makes its mark on the tourist hot-spot.

Ski Area Manager Ross Copland expects it to be hugely popular.

"The more enduro and the trail riding is really taking off with the local community. We're also seeing a lot of Australian guests and arrivals in December and January and those guys love their mountain biking as well."

The chairlift will officially open on Boxing Day.
