Pop-up health service for vulnerable youth facing closure

A pop-up style health service for vulnerable youth in Auckland is set to close before it's even found its feet, unless $50,000 can be raised to save it.

Youthline's Grey Lynn hub has been hosting the Youth Health Service in a pilot scheme which it's desperate to continue after its year of initial funding has dried up.

It's been successful in getting care to kids who are otherwise falling through the cracks, such as homeless, gay, lesbian and transgender teens, and those from poorer areas.

Youthline CEO Stephen Bell said New Zealanders aren't very good at reaching out when they need help, and young people are no different.

"So by putting it where they come to we thought we would improve access and we've had young people that would never have otherwise gone to a clinic come along."

Anyone who wants to help can make a $3 donation by texting YHS to 4499, or going to Youthline's website.
