Osteopath Council says right measures in place

The Osteopath Council says measures are in place to prevent practitioners abusing their positions of trust.

The comment comes after the Health Disciplinary Tribunal's de-registered Richard Davis, and fined him $10,500 for sexually violating five patients while practising in Gisborne.

He began serving an eight-year jail sentence for his offences a year ago.

Osteopath Council registrar, Andrew Charnock, says osteopaths need to go through a robust registration process and apply for a licence to operate every year.

"We are reliant on people bringing to our attention issues of concern or matters where they think the practitioner is not competent or is behaving inappropriately."
