The number of young women terminating pregnancies is continuing to fall.
Statistics New Zealand have yet again reported the lowest drop of abortions in 20 years.
Women between 20 and 24 have the highest number of terminations, but that rate is falling. It's also down for the younger age group of 15 to 19.
Family Planning's Chief Executive Jackie Edmonds commends increased education on the subject:
"From a New Zealand perspective we're hopeful that there has been more years of sexuality education in schools, so that should be having an impact."
She said Kiwis are following international trends across countries as more reliable forms of contraception become more available.
"I guess we're following what we can see internationally, the trends that generally the rates are coming down across most developed countries."
She added access to more reliable forms of contraception are becoming available.
