The Minister of Health is being accused of having a personal axe to grind against the Canterbury District Health Board.

A week after Jonathan Coleman replaced board members with a commissioner at the Southern District Health Board, its been revealed he's also reviewing the CDHB's performance.

The Canterbury District Health Board hopes the review into its finances takes its earthquake related challenges into account, but board members are having doubts.

Board member Jo Kane doubts the review will be independent.

She believes the Minister will find what he needs to undermine the CDHB. - adding two top people at the Ministry are disgruntled former Board employees.

The Board's deputy chair, Steve Wakefield, said evaluations by Audit New Zealand places it as the highest performing DHB in the country.

He expects any analysis to incorporate the impact of the earthquakes, including how the rebuild population is reflected in the Ministry's funding allocation.
