
A review into how the Southern District Health Board will run its kitchens has raised a number of questions for the Service and Food Workers Union.
The SDHB is looking at the possibility of privatising the kitchens in its three main hospitals with the Compass Group taking over supply.
Around 20 percent of the 120 kitchen staff at the SDHB could lose their jobs.
Service and Food Workers organiser, Anna Huffstuler has a number of concerns, including the transportation of the food.
"[We don't know] whether or not they have factored in the risk management strategies around the increase of petrol prices seeing as they tend to truck frozen meals-on-wheels down from Auckland."
