Greater funding and access to vaccines is garnering praise and excitement.
From the start of next year all males and females under the age of 26 will have access to the HPV vaccine and Director of the Immunisation Advisory Centre at the University of Auckland Doctor Nikki Turner called it "an exciting new step."
Ms Turner said every country in the world wants to introduce the "incredibly effective" vaccine.
"It's got an excellent safety profile," she said.
Pharmac's decision to extend funding for a vaccination for chickenpox is also being praised.
From the start of July next year the vaccine will be funded for all children as part of the childhood immunization schedule.
Ms Turner said the move is well overdue - they've wanted the vaccination introduced for a few years now.
"There's very good international data about the effect this [vaccine] has on the reduction of chicken pox in communities and particularly the reduction of severe chicken pox to some children."
