Waikato police have launched a homicide investigation after a man died after being assaulted this afternoon in Hamilton.

Emergency services were called to an address in Chartwell just before 2:00pm.

The 38-year-old man received significant injuries, and was being treated by ambulance staff before he died at the scene.

A scene examination is about to start, and police are appealing for anyone who has information about the assault to contact them immediately.

Police aren't giving way at much about what could have happened at the house.

However neighbours are speculating the person was stabbed to death by someone he knew.
