The Waikato Chamber of Commerce is calling for the government to step up and help Hamilton's struggling CBD by keeping hundreds of Inland Revenue staff in central city offices.
Over 900 Hamilton based Inland Revenue workers need new offices at the end of the year when current leases expire.
There's around 500 in the CBD and 400 in Te Rapa.
Waikato Chamber of Commerce CEO William Durning says the CBD needs all the help it can get.
"We feel that this is an appropriate part where the government can lend its weight to the revitalisation of the CBD."
