There appear to be two front-runners to lead New Zealand in tonight’s Commonwealth Games opening ceremony.
Gold medallists from the last Games are obvious contenders to carry the flag at Carrara, but you can rule a line through the majority of them as they’re either in action on day one, aren’t on the Gold Coast yet or have retired.
It leaves world indoor and outdoor shot put champion Tom Walsh and paralympic swimming sensation and double Glasgow gold medallist Sophie Pascoe as the stand-outs.
The Kiwi team will reveal its flag bearer at a special ceremony at 6:44pm New Zealand time.
