Taika Waititi's Thor has smashed its way to the top of the New Zealand box office, raking in a massive $6.5 million to become the year's highest-earning film.
Thor: Ragnarok was released only six weeks ago and has globally grossed more than $US800m ($1.2b) to now stand as the seventh-highest-grossing film for Marvel.
But New Zealand fans in particular have embraced the movie - which has plenty of Kiwi in-jokes and slang to keep local audiences entertained - thanks to director Waititi.
He not only directs, but plays CGI character Korg with a distinctly New Zealand accent and vocabulary.
The Kiwi connection has been so strong that the film has overtaken other Marvel heavyweights including Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Captain America: Civil War - unlike in other markets around the world.
