Say bonjour to Le Lotus Blanc. Filming for the next season of award-winning TV series The White Lotus is officially underway.
It’ll be a while until we can tune into the next instalment of the dark comedy-drama series, but we know a fair bit about what to expect when it does return.
Here are all the details we know so far:
Where is The White Lotus season four set?
Each season is set in a different, luxurious White Lotus resort. So far, we’ve jet-setted to Hawaii, Sicily and Thailand. For the next season, we’re heading to France, where production is underway now on the Riviera.
HBO says season four will film in Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Monaco, with additional filming in Paris, although “the story will remain along the Côte d’Azur”.

Hotels featured this season include the Airelles Château de la Messardière in Saint-Tropez as the White Lotus du Cap and the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes as the White Lotus Cannes.
What do we know about the plot?
HBO also confirmed the season four plot will follow a new group of hotel guests and employees “over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival”.
Who is in the cast?
Operating as an anthology series, The White Lotus has a revolving cast, structured around a new set of hotel guests and workers each season.
Helena Bonham Carter was the first A-list name confirmed for the call sheet. Also signed on are Steve Coogan, Marty Supreme’s Sandra Bernhard, The Mindy Project’s Chris Messina, New Girl’s Max Greenfield and Eternal’s Kumail Nanjiani.
French actor Vincent Cassel, known for roles in La Haine, Ocean’s Twelve and Black Swan, will star as a French character.
Last season, Morgana O’Reilly joined the cast as fan favourite Pam, the health butler who manages the resort’s wellness programme. This season, there’s another “Kiwi” actor in the mix.
Producers credit Caleb Jonte Edwards as an Australian actor, but he’ll be recognisable to local audiences from his part in an iconic New Zealand series. He plays Ash James (aka Tyler Hudson) in Shortland Street.

Who’s on the crew?
Mike White is the mastermind behind The White Lotus, creating, writing and directing the show as well as serving as showrunner. The show’s other executive producers include David Bernad and Mark Kamine.
One high-achieving crew member won’t be back. Cristobal Tapia de Veer, the show’s three-time Emmy-winning composer, who created the viral opening credits music, told the New York Times he was leaving because of creative differences with White. In response, White told The Howard Stern Show it was “kind of a b.... move”.
“I don’t think he liked to go through the process of getting notes from me, or wanting revisions, because he didn’t respect me. I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way.”
When will season four be released?
In the words of every hotel manager ever: unfortunately, your room is not quite ready yet.
Filming is expected to run from late April to October; the Cannes Film Festival takes place in May. An official release date hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s almost certain we won’t be checking out The White Lotus season four until next year.
