Star Trek is coming back to TV.

CBS has announced a new series will air from January 2017, soon after Star Trek celebrates its 50 anniversary.

It's being created specifically for the network's All Access streaming platform.

According to CBS, the new show will "seek imaginative new worlds and new civilizations".

The executive producer is Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the 2009 and 2013 films.
