Global audiences are falling in love with yet another New Zealand film and Kiwi audiences have the chance to catch it on the big screen from today.
Born to Dance has premiered to an overflowing audience at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Producer Daniel Story said international audiences are relating to the film, despite the local themes and Kiwi slang.
"The response has been amazing. We've had all sorts of different people turn up to the public screenings - they were packed out. We even had Janet Jackson turn up. And they loved it. They thought it was fantastic."
The story - of a boy from the wrong side of town trying to break into a dance troupe - may sound familiar, but Story said it's been given a down-under twist.
"It's definitely a little more real. It's not quite as polished, dare I say it fake, as a Hollywood title. It's that bit grittier and I think people relate to that a little bit more."
The dance sequences are choreographed by three-time World Hip-Hop Dance Champion Parris Goebel and Story said one of the core reasons for doing the movie was to utilise New Zealand's dance talent.
