A 64-year-old Canterbury man is dead and another person has moderate injuries after a T-bone collision near Templeton.

The incident happened on State Highway 73 West Coast Road, not far from the intersection with Miners Road shortly after 7 30.

Witnesses say the man who died was performing the u-turn in a red Mazda Eunos at the time of the crash.

The driver of the other car, a silver Nissan Sunny, remains in hospital.

Police are asking anyone with further information to contact them.
