Emergency services are tackling a large house fire in Hamilton.

Five fire crews are fighting flames at the home in Plateau Drive in the Fitzroy area.

They don't believe there is anyone inside the house, but one person is being treated for burns by ambulance staff at the scene.

Northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Philips says the first call was at about 6.45pm.

The house was well-involved in flames when crews arrived.
