Police have confirmed a 30-year-old man is dead after a crash on the Kapiti Coast.

Emergency services were called to Paekakariki Hill road after a member of public reported seeing the body of a man next to a car, about 7.30 this morning.

Police spokesperson Nick Bohm says the car is down a bank about 200 metres down from the road's summit.

It's not clear when the car went off the road.

The road remains closed - as police work to recover the vehicle which is in a difficult position.
