A man has died this evening after striking trouble while kayaking on the Waitaki River near Kurow, north of Oamaru.
Police were alerted to the situation at approximately 4.50pm this afternoon and a rescue operation was launched immediately.
They found the man's body in the river a short time later.
Emergency services are supporting the man's grieving family.
