Updated 11.16am:Â The eight hectare scrub fire raging in Wainuiomata overnight looks to be under control.
The Fire Service was first alerted to the flare-up on Coast Road at around 2 this morning.
Central Fire Communications shift manager Jan Wills says they were able to keep the blaze controlled and stop it from nearing the town.
She says there are no reports of any property damage or injuries from the fire.
Upwards of 30 rural firefighters are working on the blaze.
