Investigators are heading to the scene of a fire that's gutted a home in Canterbury's Selwyn District.

As many as eight fire trucks attended the blaze on Calders Road in West Melton at about 3am on Tuesday.

Fire crews from around the district arrived to find the single-storey home already engulfed by flames, a Fire And Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.

No-one had been reported injured and investigators would be heading to the scene later in the morning, he said.
