UPDATED 8.47pm: A blaze has gutted a Maori tertiary building in Otaki.

The Fire Service was called to the fire at Te Wananga o Raukawa at 5.15pm.

Central shift manager David Meikle said the building was "well alight when we arrived".

Nine fire trucks were required to bring the inferno under control.

Mr Meikle said no one was injured in the blaze, and investigators would work over the coming days to discover the cause of the fire.
