One person is dead and another injured after a crash overnight near Massey University in Palmerston North.

The crash happened on Tennant Drive and involved one vehicle.

The male passenger was found dead in the vehicle around 8.30 this morning.

Detective Johnny Oram says it appears the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree, before going over a small bank.

Police are speaking with the driver.
