A fallen tree has taken out train cables, started a fire, and stopped the Capital Connection train line in Wellington.

The fire service has the fire under control, which started after live cables ignited dry scrub land near Takapu Road Station in Tawa.

Passengers onboard the train heading towards the site, have now left the train and are being escorted along the tracks to Takapu Road Station.

All trains between Wellington and Porirua have been replaced by busses as a result damaged train line.
