People in all homes above the Governor's Bay fire station and around Allendale have been made to leave.

He said they've had to put a lot of further resources into Governors Bay, and with the aid of police evacuate all the properties above the Governors Bay fire station and around Allendale.

Staff and equipment has been brought in from the likes of Diamond Harbour, Lyttelton, Rangiora, Woodend, Lincoln and Rolleston to protect properties.
