The Fire Service is reminding people with domestic fire places to take care when disposing ash in wheelie bins.

Christchurch fire fighters received several calls last night about a wheelie bin on fire in Bromley.

They believe it started from embers in ash put in the bin from a fire place.

The Fire Service recommends waiting a couple of days after a fire has gone out before putting the ash into the waste.
