Updated 4:30pm: Auckland Council says it won't be giving a knee-jerk reaction to two recent drownings at a popular swimming spot south of the city.
A 13-year-old boy's body has been recovered from Hunua Falls after he died there yesterday, police have named him as Lilatoni Vetemotu, from Pukekohe.
He drowned yesterday afternoon.
Another teenager 17-year-old Peter Lemalu also drowned there ten days ago.
On Facebook, Peter Lemalu's sister Ruth Kepi said the waterfall should've been shut down years ago.
The Council's sport, parks and recreation general manager Mace Ward said it wouldn't be practical to do that.
"But we would ask people to be prepared, to know your own limits, watch pout for yourself and other and be aware of the dangers."
Mr Ward said signs at Hunua Falls say the water is deep and cold, has lower buoyancy and that the water hole is very slippery.
Franklin councillor Bill Cashmore said the council doesn't want to give a quick response that's not particularly well-informed.
"We need to get the opinions of our park staff, the opinions of police and the opinion from the coroners report before we make some decisions about which way we need to go."
There have been nine deaths at Hunua Falls since the 1980s.
The matter has now been referred to the coroner.
