Negotiations between primary teachers and the Ministry of Education will continue next week.

They met yesterday without progress on the impasse which has led to tomorrow's strike by primary teachers and principals.

And it seems most parents have care for their children sorted.

Youthtown runs after school programmes in 12 locations around the country and Chief Executive Paula Kearns says the usual after school programmes at ten of those will be cancelled because parents have made other arrangements for their children.

She says Christchurch is the only area where there is increased demand.

Meanwhile Ministry officials met union negotiators yesterday without progress on their pay claims.

They've agreed to meet again next week.
