Auckland University is taking a new approach, to trying to restore its place on international research rankings.

The latest rankings have the university down 11 places, to 175.

Staff are being asked to "increase their impact" and make the public more aware of their research.

Academics are being encouraged to make reports and articles publicly available, through research repositories.

They're also being asked to keep their online profiles up-to-date and use a consistent name in all publications.

Physics professor Shaun Hendy says blogs and Twitter are also good ways to promote research.
